Vertical laminar flow workstations with multiple heating zones

Esco Multi-Zone ART Workstation

The Esco Multi-Zone ART Workstation ensures superior and gentle handling of embryos with advanced monitoring and environmental control. Its touchscreen monitor displays the temperature of the heated surface, gas flow, and pressure, while the multi-zone heating system with four temperature modes automatically prioritizes power distribution to maintain precise temperature control and rapid recovery.

Additional features include a heated glass stage with dedicated uninterrupted power supply for enhanced temperature stability and recovery, an energy efficiency chart, superior air cleanliness, Isocide™ powder coating, reduced noise and vibration, and cable pass-through tunnels for efficient and safe workflow.

Vertical Laminar Airflow for Sample Protection

The workstation utilizes a vertical laminar airflow system where air is filtered and then moved downward in a uniform, unidirectional stream. This technical design creates a positive pressure environment that prevents ambient laboratory air, which may contain dust or microbes, from entering the work zone. By maintaining an ISO Class 5 environment, the workstation ensures that the delicate biological processes of fertilization and embryo culture are not compromised by airborne pollutants.

Multi-Zone Heated Surface Technology

Precise thermal control is achieved through the integration of multiple heating zones beneath the stainless steel surface. Each zone is equipped with its own sensor and controller, allowing the user to maintain a uniform 37 C across the entire work area.15 This multi-zone approach is technically superior to single-zone heating because it prevents temperature fluctuations and "cold spots" that could occur when cold media or dishes are placed on the surface.

High-Efficiency HEPA and VOC Filtration System

The workstation features a primary HEPA filter that is 99.99 % efficient at removing particles as small as 0.3 mum. To further enhance embryo safety, the system can be fitted with a specialized VOC filter. This chemical filtration is critical because volatile organic compounds found in common laboratory cleaning agents can be harmful to embryo development. The filtered air is continuously recirculated to maintain a pristine micro-environment for sensitive ART procedures.

Microscope Integration and Heated Glass Plates

The design allows for the seamless integration of stereo microscopes. A specialized heated glass plate is embedded directly into the worktop at the microscope position. This ensures that the samples being observed remain at the optimal temperature without the need for an external heated stage. The glass plate provides high optical clarity for the embryologist while maintaining the same precise 37 C as the rest of the multi-zone surface.

Advanced Microprocessor Control System

All functions of the workstation are governed by a sophisticated microprocessor control system. This system monitors airflow velocity and surface temperatures in real-time. An intuitive display panel allows the operator to set and monitor parameters easily. If any deviations occur, such as a drop in airflow or a temperature variation, the system triggers audible and visual alarms to alert the laboratory staff immediately, ensuring process integrity.

Ergonomic Design and User Comfort

To support the long hours required for embryology procedures, the workstation features an ergonomic design with a sloped front. This reduces glare and allows the operator to reach the work area more comfortably. The workstation also includes a quiet blower system to minimize noise pollution in the lab, which is important for maintaining a focused environment. Additionally, adjustable stands allow the height of the unit to be customized to the user's preference.

Stainless Steel Work Zone and Easy Decontamination

The work surface and interior walls are constructed from medical-grade stainless steel. This material is chosen for its durability and its resistance to corrosion from laboratory disinfectants. The technical layout features coved corners that prevent the accumulation of dust and biological matter. This makes the decontamination process straightforward and effective, reducing the risk of cross-contamination between different patient cycles.

Integrated Humidification and Gas Supply

The workstation can be configured with gas supply ports to facilitate the use of specialized gas mixtures during procedures. These ports can be connected to humidification systems that prevent the dehydration of culture media. By maintaining the correct atmospheric conditions and humidity alongside temperature and air purity, the workstation provides a complete support system for gametes and embryos outside of the incubator.
