Vacuum Distillation

Vacuum distillation is an essential analytical process for determining the boiling range characteristics of petroleum fractions that have high boiling points and cannot be distilled under atmospheric pressure. It allows the evaluation of lubricating oils, heavy gas oils, residues, and specialty hydrocarbon products with exceptional accuracy and reproducibility.

The technology operates by reducing the ambient pressure inside the distillation chamber, lowering the boiling temperature of heavy samples to prevent thermal cracking or decomposition. This enables precise measurement of distillation behavior for materials that are thermally sensitive or have high molecular weights.

PAC’s vacuum distillation systems are designed for compliance with international test methods such as ASTM D1160 and ISO 6616, ensuring traceable and standardized data suitable for refining, petrochemical, and product certification applications. The automated control of temperature, pressure, and condenser conditions guarantees consistent and reproducible results.

High-resolution temperature sensors and digital vacuum regulation maintain stable test conditions throughout the distillation run. The system provides accurate detection of initial and final boiling points, recovery volumes, and residue characteristics with minimal operator intervention.

With a wide operating temperature range extending beyond 400°C and precise pressure control down to a few millimeters of mercury, the vacuum distillation setup ensures optimal performance across a variety of heavy distillates, waxes, and lubricant samples.

Automation plays a key role in process reliability. Automatic sample heating, pressure adjustment, and data acquisition minimize human error and improve productivity. The system also includes built-in safety interlocks and sample cooling control to ensure secure operation.

Vacuum distillation provides valuable information for refinery process optimization, blending control, and quality assurance. It helps characterize boiling range distributions and volatility behavior, offering insights into refining efficiency and product formulation.

By combining high precision, full automation, and advanced temperature-pressure regulation, PAC’s vacuum distillation technology delivers reliable and standardized results. It supports laboratories and refineries in achieving consistent performance, improved throughput, and compliance with global testing standards.
