Shimadzu offers a Gas chromatography instrument where the sample solution is injected into the instrument enters a gas stream which transports the sample into a separation column. The various components are separated inside the column. The detector measures the quantity of the components that exit the column. Then a standard sample with known concentration is injected into the instrument to measure a sample with an unknown concentration.

Shimadzu's gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) systems combine gas chromatography (GC) and mass spectrometry (MS) to identify unknown substances and contaminants with ultra-high sensitivity and efficiency. MALDI-TOF (Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization Time-of-Flight) Mass Spectrometry is an analytical technique that measures the mass of molecules from a sample that has been embedded in a matrix by using a laser to ablate and desorb the molecules with minimal fragmentation.
